Stephani formerly worked in the Office of Pain Policy and Planning at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She currently serves as Communications Director for the Acute to Chronic Pain Signatures (A2CPS), a bold research initiative to help understand who gets chronic pain and why. Stephani is currently independently producing a podcast, Notes on Pain, which will launch in Fall 2026. She lives in southern California with her husband and two grown kids.

Presentation: Dr. Sutherland's talk will cover exciting developments in the study of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Research studies on sensory neurons from human tissue donors has provided evidence for an entirely new understanding of diabetic neuropathy as a neurodegenerative disease, rather than something that arises from damage to nerve endings.
