Organizations

The Neuropathy Association

The Neuropathy Association (TNA) is a national organization which provides support, education, and advocacy for those with peripheral neuropathy, and which promotes research.  The NCCNA is a chapter of this national organization.

The University of California, San Francisco Neuropathy Center

This is one of five nationwide centers funded by The Neuropathy Association.  The center coordinates education, support and outreach programs for patients suffering from peripheral neuropathy.

The Neuropathy Action Foundation

The Neuropathy Action Foundation (NAF) is committed to educating the public about neuropathy and to helping neuropathy patients obtain access to medications and treatments.

California Health Advocates

This non-profit organization independent non-profit organization is dedicated to Medicare beneficiary advocacy and education for Californians.  A key benefit they provide is the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP), which provides free counseling to Medicare recipients, helping them understand their rights and plan options.

American Diabetes Association

Though diabetes is only one cause of neuropathy, about half of all diabetics have some sort of nerve damage.  Check out the association's overview and other helpful aids on neuropathy.

Peripheral Neuropathy: When the Numbness, Weakness, and Pain Won't Stop
by Norman Latov, MD, PhD • Published by Demos Medical Publishing, November 2006

Written by a co-founder of The Neuropathy Association, this book is a guide for patients and families and explains what is known about peripheral neuropathy and how it can be managed.  It is particularly helpful with its extensive exploration of the causes of neuropathy.  This book, cover price $19.95, is available from The Neuropathy Association store for $10 plus shipping.

Numb Toes and Aching Soles: Coping With Peripheral Neuropathy
by John A. Senneff • Published by MedPress, September 1999

Billed as a comprehensive guide to help the millions with peripheral neuropathy, this book, one of the first ones to look at the disease from a patient's point of view, discusses causes, an extensive array of treatments, and coping strategies.  Senneff later wrote Numb Toes and Other Woes: More on Peripheral Neuropathy and Nutrients for Neuropathy, forming a three-volume series.  All are available at Amazon.com and most booksellers.
