Spring Meeting 2008
The NCCNA held its annual meeting on April 24, 2008 at the Sierra
Health Foundation in Sacramento. Board member Laura Niznik put together an array of helpful presentations, and she and NCCNA VP Sandra Vinson provided the lunch.
The morning started with a presentation by Jay Tinsman, MA, a licensed therapist, on “Accessing Inner Resources We Didn't Know We Had.” He explained how self-hypnosis works, and provided some information on how to employ these techniques.
Michelle Orrock,
the Statewide Communications Director for
the National Federation of Independent Business, gave a very useful presentation on how to put together a plan to engage the media and others in the community. She provided guidelines for writing news releases and op-eds, and pitching local stories, including explaining how to interact with reporters in the most effective way. She prepared handouts for each specific group attending, listing media outlets in their areas. This will help groups publicize their events.

After lunch, it was time to get active. Jayah Paley of Adventure Buddies demonstrated the use of
poles in walking, which enables people to use their muscles and
helps preserve joints and improve balance. Everyone got to try out walking with the poles both inside and out, and including going up and down steps and inclines.

NCCNA president Bev Anderson practices going down steps with the poles.

Martha Chandley, neuropathy advocate extraordinaire, chats with director Laura Niznik at the registration table.
