Advisors Policy

The NCCNA will develop a panel of medical advisors who are known to be experts in peripheral neuropathy or specific aspects of peripheral neuropathy.  These doctors and other members of the healthcare community will be nominated by a member of the board of directors from knowledge of the nominee’s ability.  If the nomination is approved, that medical professional will be contacted as to his or her willingness to serve.  The nominee will not be notified that they are under consideration.  Two board members or a board member and a group leader will visit the professional and report back to the board the response they received, at which time the person will be approved or not approved to be a medical advisor.

Medical advisors will be consulted by a member of the board of directors or a board designee in response to a request for information by a member or the board.  This may be by voice or e-mail.  Medical advisors will only be consulted about information directly connected with their field of expertise.

Advisors in other specific fields may also be recruited.  These areas may be legal, organizational development, fundraising, financial, and other areas for which the board desires ongoing counsel.  The same process of nomination and confirmation as described for the medical advisor will be used.

Advisors will generally be consulted individually, but this does not preclude a time when the board may want to bring two or more together for a specific reason or to serve on a committee.  All advisors serve on a voluntary basis.
